Student Daily News: "A rise in depression among teens could be linked to social media use."
Today we are going to be reading an article that builds off of our previous work in class (Paper Tigers). Here are today's learning target's:
1.) Students will understand the cause and effect of Social Media and Anxiety/Depression.
2.) Students will be able to understand depression as a mental disorder and how it correlates with current research.
3.) Students will be able to connect data through statistics to help in the determination of correlation.

3.) Our goal is to discuss the article last 10-15 minutes of class.
Please know, There is hope! Talking to someone you trust and getting help is key. Make changes: spend time with friends and family where you are not on any devices, take a break or completely quit social media. Most teens can’t do it on their own. Talk to a parent about it. Talk to other teens. Ask a teacher to discuss it in class. You are not alone!

- NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said in an interview this month: “We are living in a time of anxiety. I think it’s a direct result of social media. A lot of players are unhappy.”

- Of social media he said, “It’s a dark place. It’s not a healthy place. It’s not real. It’s not a healthy place for ego…it’s just this cycle of anger and validation and tribalism. It’s scary, man.”
