Please play the news first, tell them to pay attention as they have new quiz this Friday. Then have them take a page of notes on the Frontline: “Separate and Unequal”. They may not finish in class. So if that happens please write down the time that you left off for each class and tell them to hold on to their notes.

Attached you will find the STI data that you requested. A couple of things:

1) Gonorrhea is currently trending up here in Clark, but this is a statewide trend, and Multnomah County has seen an uptick as well.

2) Herpes Simplex cases jump up in 2013. This is most likely due to better/more testing, not an outbreak.

3) In 2012-2013 there was an outbreak of Syphilis, similar to Multnomah County (Portland). This is reflected in the incidence. Here is an article with some of the details http://www.pqmonthly.com/multnomah-county-sees-dramatic-increase-in-syphilis-infections/12516

4) HIV/AIDS data can be found on the Washington Department of Health Annual Communicable Disease Report. I don’t have the 2014 data yet.

5) I didn’t break down the age groups for Syphilis and Herpes because the Syphilis numbers are small overall, and Herpes had some consistently small numbers in specific age groups.

Be ready to present on Monday! If you don't finish in class make sure to work on it over the weekend! PRACTICE!!!! 4-5 MINUTES! Make sure it has flow and you know what you are talking about and could answer questions about your topic after your presentation. See all documents for the project off to the left side of the site...

* When I hear from the Clark County Health Dept. I will post up on the site as well... He just e-mailed me and won't have the data until 5pm.

Sorry I am out again today my oldest was up all night vomiting (flu or hopefully a quick bug). Today for CWP you are going to watch a frontline specifically focusing on the first four years of the Obama Presidency. You will do our traditional one page of notes.
